The tutorial deals with electrocardiography — the principal method of instrumental examination of the cardiovascular system. It is the leading electrophysiological method of studying the function of the heart, and one that students commonly find difficult to master.

The aim of the tutorial is to give a thorough grounding in the diagnosis of heart disease, and of the changes in the cardiovascular system that arise in disease of other organs, by means of electrocardiography. The material is set out in academic form — in particular, from the standpoint of the vector theory of electrocardiography — but also includes historical digressions and a problem-based approach. The clinical significance of the changes detected is emphasized throughout, which makes the more difficult parts of instrumental diagnosis easier to take in. The tutorial is generously illustrated with diagrams, drawings and electrocardiograms.
